Christmas drink-driving under spotlight in South Wales

Motorists who risk the lives of themselves and others by taking to the road inebriated over the Christmas period will be targeted by police in South Wales, a national news source reports.

The BBC states that 24-hour roadside checks will be implemented by officers in the region in an effort to reduce the number of accidents during the festive season.

Older drivers who take heed of the government's campaign to think before they head out this year will also find that they do not risk their senior car insurance, avoiding a hefty fine and criminal record in the process.

Officials are "committed to enforcing the drink-drive laws rigorously," commented South Wales Police Inspector Carwyn Evans.

"We are not out to spoil anyone's fun over Christmas, however, there remains to be a minority of people who still think they can get away with it," said the official.

The Department for Transport website states that motorists can pick up a 12-month ban from driving if they are found over the limit on the road.

Furthermore, a hefty fine and criminal record can be picked up.
